Organizers from Georgia Detention Watch, Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition, and the Shut Down Stewart movement, will conduct a detailed workshop on the human rights violations taking place at Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, GA. For years, Soa Watch has understood that the root causes of the immigration crisis in the US include economic exploitation and military intervention in Latin America and other parts of the world. During this workshop, presenters will examine these causes with a specific focus on the intersections of racism, militarism, and mass incarceration that are embodied at Stewart and other detention centers throughout the US.
