The Arts Exchange is pleased to present Ruth Dusseault’s PLAY WAR: RESPAWN a captivating documentary film about paintball, veterans and war. Paintball is a form of spontaneous theater that occurs in rural and exurban spaces, and is defined and organized on the internet. Some veterans use the games for its sensory triggers, as a form of self-administered PTSD exposure therapy. On average, nearly half the players in large-scale paintball scenario games are veterans. Many fought in the wars of this century Filmed over 5 years entirely from the playing field, Respawn transitions in abstraction between recruitment, training and recovery.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the filmmaker, Ruth Dusseault whose documentary film and photography projects interpret utopian expressions in the built environment as they reflect our immediate histories. She teaches production in the Film program at Georgia State University. She will be joined by Photojournalist Raymond McCrea Jones, whose photography exhibit Birth of a Warrior is on view in The Xchange Gallery at The Arts Exchange until October 31.as part of Atlanta Celebrates Photography. The stunning photographs in Birth of a Warrior chronicle the transformation of 162 young men from across the country into U.S. Army Delta Company 2/47.TheXchange Gallery will be open from 12noon-6:30pm and immediately following the discussion.
