Lobbying

Take action with us to influence public policy in the halls of Congress!

Lobby for Peace & Justice

GPJC/Atlanta activists lobby the elected officials representing us in Washington on specific legislation dealing with war and occupation, care for veterans, military recruitment, and defense of civil liberties.  We have arranged Atlanta and Washington office visits and coordinated phone, fax, email, and letter-writing campaigns, calling on Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss and our 13 Representatives to take action for peace and justice.

We invite you to join with GPJC/Atlanta in this important lobbying work.  Since seven of Georgia’s 13 Congressional Districts are part of metro Atlanta, we are developing seven lobbying teams to communicate with these metro Representatives.  In addition, we coordinate our activities with activists across the state in the other eight Congressional districts.  To join our lobbying efforts, contact us (404-522-4500 or Peace.JusticeATL@gmail.com).

The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) in Washington is a tremendous fund of information on important legislation and for advice on communicating with our elected representatives.  Please visit their web site www.fcnl.org and take advantage of this valuable resource.  Read more about specific legislation concerning Iraq, Iran, care for veterans, and civil liberties and communicate your opinions to your representatives.

Contact your U.S. Senators and your Representatives.  All Senators and Representatives can be reached in their Washington offices through the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.  Free 800 numbers to the switchboard often change, but can be located by Googling “free phone numbers to Capitol switchboard.”

All Georgians are represented by Senators Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss.  The Washington mailing address for both Senators is U.S. Senate, Washinton, D.C. 20510.  Other info:

Sen. Johnny Isakson Georgia office: 770-661-0999  One Overton Park  3625 Cumberland Blvd., Atlanta 30339.

Sen. Saxby Chambliss Georgia office: 770-763-9090  100 Galleria Parkway, Atlanta.30339.

Georgia is divided into 13 Congressional Districts, each with one U.S. Representative representing approximately 500,000 constituents.  Counties are often divided into two or three districts.  If you don’t know your Representative, go to www.Congress.org, enter your address and find your Rep.  The Washington mailing address for all Representatives is U.S. House of Rep., Washington, D.C. 20515.
